The Federal Law Enforcement Training Accreditation Board Grants Accreditation to the Transportation Security Administration Federal Air Marshal Service Training Center and two Programs

The Federal Law Enforcement Training Accreditation (FLETA) Board ispleased to announce it granted initial accreditation status to theTransportation Security Administration (TSA) Federal Air MarshalService’s (FAMS) Firearms Instructor Training Program, academyreaccreditation to the Federal Air Marshal Service Training Center, andprogram reaccreditation to the Federal Air Marshal Training Program II(FAMTP II) at the October 31, 2013 meeting in Brunswick, Georgia.

Located on the grounds of the William J. Hughes FAA Technical Centerin Atlantic City, NJ, the Federal Air Marshal Service Training Center(FAMSTC) is a discrete entity within the larger Law Enforcement andIndustry Training Division, which is located within TSA's Office ofTraining and Workforce Engagement. The primary responsibility of theFAMSTC is to provide effective learning environments and opportunities,utilizing current and relevant curricula and training methodologies, toenable and challenge Federal Air Marshals, and other designatedtransportation security professionals, to perform their duties andresponsibilities in a highly effective manner.

The FITP is a FAMS specific program that prepares students toconduct the FAMS quarterly firearms requalification accurately andfairly, diagnose and correct a board spectrum of shooting deficiencies,enhance podium and classroom management skills. The FITP exposesstudents to a wide variety of common law enforcement weapons andcourses of fires.

The FAMTP-II prepares Federal Air Marshal Candidates to performunique and critical missions. FAMTP-II provides mission-specifictraining in transportation security, particularly the aviation domain,adapting physical skills such as firearms and defensive measures forsafe application within the domain. The FAMTP-II course also reinforcesand expands on topics introduced during FAMTP-I in the areas ofInternational Law, Arrest Procedures, Report Writing, TransportationInformation Sharing, Basic Negotiations, Aircraft Safety Procedures,Common Strategy, Aircraft Tactics, Defensive Measures and AdvancedFirearms Techniques.

The FLETA Board is the accrediting body for all federal lawenforcement training and support programs. To achieve accreditation,agencies submit to an independent review of their academy and/orprogram to ensure compliance with the FLETA Standards and Procedures in the areas of: Program Administration, Training Staff, TrainingDevelopment, and Training Delivery, with an additional 20 standards forAcademies. Accreditation is a cyclical process occurring every fiveyears. Each year, agencies must submit annual reports in preparationfor reaccreditation, which is a new and independent review of theacademy/program.
