The Federal Law Enforcement Training Accreditation Board Grants Program Accreditation to the U.S. Coast Guard Tactical Coxswain Course-A

The Federal Law Enforcement Training Accreditation (FLETA) Board ispleased to announce it granted accreditation status to the U.S. CoastGuard’s Tactical Coxswain Course-A (TCC-A) at the July 11, 2013 Boardmeeting in Brunswick, Georgia.

The purpose of the Tactical Coxswain Course-A program is to providestudents with the knowledge and skills necessary to perform as aTactical Coxswain Unit Level Trainer in support of the Ports,Waterways, and Coastal Security (PWCS) mission as promulgated by theU.S. Coast Guard Boat Operations and Training Manual, and in accordancewith Maritime Law Enforcement Manual. The target population for thiscourse is Coast Guard Coxswains within the rank of E-5 to E-9, andChief Warrant Officers assigned as Station Commanding Officers.

The TCC-A is presented at the U.S. Coast Guard Special MissionsTraining Center (SMTC), located in Courthouse Bay aboard Marine CorpsBase Camp Lejeune in eastern North Carolina.  SMTC develops anddelivers training and training material to improve performance, ensuresafety, promote proficiency, and enforce standardization for thetactical communities the Coast Guard serves. SMTC is the Center ofExcellence (COE) for tactical operations and trains more than 800 CoastGuard and Navy men and women each year.

The FLETA Board is the accrediting body for all federal lawenforcement training and support programs. To achieve accreditation,agencies submit to an independent review of their academy and/orprogram to ensure compliance with the FLETA Standards and Procedures in the areas of: Program Administration, Training Staff, TrainingDevelopment, and Training Delivery, with an additional 20 standards forAcademies. Accreditation is a cyclical process occurring every threeyears. Each year, agencies must submit annual reports in preparationfor reaccreditation, which is a new and independent review of theacademy/program.
