Mr. Barbuti was appointed as the Special Agent in Charge (SAC) of the Office of Training in November 2019. In this role, he leads a staff of approximately 255 DEA and contract employees dedicated to supporting DEA training at Quantico and at several additional domestic and foreign training locations, including the International Law Enforcement Academies (ILEAs) in Bangkok, Thailand, and San Salvador, El Salvador. He supports DEA’s mission to develop, deliver, and advocate preeminent law enforcement and related training to DEA personnel, as well as federal, state, local, and foreign law enforcement counterparts.
Prior to this position, SAC Barbuti served as the Assistant Special Agent in Charge (ASAC) of DEA’s Richmond District Office. In that role, he had oversight of DEA’s Richmond, Norfolk, Hampton, Roanoke, and Bristol offices, supervising federal drug investigations and working with state and local law enforcement counterparts in 78 counties and numerous independent cities throughout the Commonwealth of Virginia.
While assigned to DEA Headquarters, SAC Barbuti served as an Executive Assistant to the DEA Administrator and Deputy Administrator, providing assistance to DEA’s most senior executive leadership on a variety of agency-wide policies, programs, and initiatives. In addition, SAC Barbuti also held the positions of Executive Assistant to the Chief of Operations and Deputy Section Chief for DEA’s Europe, Asia, and Africa Section, where he supervised a team of agents who provided support to DEA’s overseas offices and coordinated DEA’s international programs and strategies with foreign counterparts.
Throughout his more than 27 year career as a DEA Special Agent, SAC Barbuti has held numerous leadership positions, including Country Attaché for DEA’s Frankfurt, Germany Country Office, Resident Agent in Charge for the New Bedford, MA Resident Office and Cape Cod Task Force, and Task Force Group Supervisor in the Boston Division Office.
SAC Barbuti is a 1992 graduate of the DEA Academy in Quantico, VA and served as a Special Agent in both New York, NY and Boston, MA before promoting to a Group Supervisor position in 2003.
SAC Barbuti is a native of Pennsylvania and received a Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice from Northeastern University in Boston, MA.
