The Federal Law Enforcement Training Accreditation (FLETA) Board ispleased to announce it granted accreditation status to the U.S. SecretService’s (USSS) Basic Investigation of Computer and Electronic CrimesProgram at the July 11, 2013 Board meeting in Brunswick, Georgia.
The Basic Investigation of Computer and Electronic Crimes Program(BICEP) trains law enforcement personnel, as well as others withlimited or no technical background, as first responders for electroniccrimes investigations. This course provides foundational training toenable graduates to assist with electronic crimes-related search andseizures; conduct basic investigative interviews; acquire basicinformation to begin a cyber-crime investigation; and to work towardadvanced electronic crimes-related assignments.
The target audience is special agents, supervisors, and non-guncarrying personnel who work directly in the fields of electronic crimeinvestigations, electronic crime evidence/statistical processing,internet-based threats, and cyber-crime intelligence collection andanalysis.
The FLETA Board is the accrediting body for all federal lawenforcement training and support programs. To achieve accreditation,agencies submit to an independent review of their academy and/orprogram to ensure compliance with the FLETA Standards and Procedures in the areas of: Program Administration, Training Staff, TrainingDevelopment, and Training Delivery, with an additional 20 standards forAcademies. Accreditation is a cyclical process occurring every threeyears. Each year, agencies must submit annual reports in preparationfor reaccreditation, which is a new and independent review of theacademy/program.
