The Federal Law Enforcement Training Accreditation Board Grants Reaccreditation to the Federal Bureau of Investigation Academy and New Agents Training Program

The Federal Law Enforcement Training Accreditation (FLETA) Board ispleased to announce it granted reaccreditation to the Federal Bureau ofInvestigation (FBI) Academy and New Agents Training Program (NATP) atthe October 31, 2013 meeting in Brunswick, Georgia.

The FBI Academy is located on the United States Marine Corps Base inQuantico, Virginia.  The facility is situated on 547 wooded acresof land providing the security, privacy, and safe environment necessaryto carry out the diverse training and operations functions for whichthe FBI is responsible. The FBI Academy's main complex consists ofvarious classrooms and teaching laboratories, a centrally locatedlibrary, a dining hall, a gymnasium and three dormitories for housingstudents. 

Hogan's Alley, which is a training facility that is separate fromthe main complex, affords New Agent Trainees the opportunity to applyprinciples taught in the classroom and on the firing range tosituations they would encounter while on actual duty. The Hogan's Alleycomplex is a realistic practical problem training area.  Opened in1987, Hogan's Alley is used to train methods of surveillance, arrestprocedures, and tactical street survival.

The mission of the New Agents Training Program Section is to provideeffective basic training and education to New Agent candidates and toprovide effective national and international programs relative tofirearms, defensive tactics, physical fitness, law enforcementsurvival, tactical emergency vehicle operations, intelligence, andantiterrorism force protection.

The FLETA Board is the accrediting body for all federal lawenforcement training and support programs. To achieve accreditation,agencies submit to an independent review of their academy and/orprogram to ensure compliance with the FLETA Standards and Procedures in the areas of: Program Administration, Training Staff, TrainingDevelopment, and Training Delivery, with an additional 20 standards forAcademies. Accreditation is a cyclical process occurring every fiveyears. Each year, agencies must submit annual reports in preparationfor reaccreditation, which is a new and independent review of theacademy/program.
