The Federal Law Enforcement Training Accreditation (FLETA) Board ispleased to announce it granted initial accreditation status to theNaval Criminal Investigative Service (NCIS) Basic Physical SecurityTraining Program (BPSTP) at the July 12, 2012 meeting in Glynco,Georgia. Assistant Director Andy Hogan, NCISHQ Human Resources,accepted the accreditation certificate on behalf of Director MarkClookie, thanking the Board. He also thanked staff members ScottHickson and Paul Kasper for their hard work, “This program is thecornerstone for team members as they work to protect assets worldwide.Our accreditation is critical to supporting our training efforts as wesupport the needs of the field”.
The NCIS BPSTP is a four-week training programand is a basic training requirement for NCIS Security TrainingAssistance and Assessment Team (STAAT) personnel. The training is basedon student centered learning principles and introduces the students toPhysical Security fundamentals and equipment, anti-terrorism, securityengineering, and information security. Graduates of NCIS BPSTP usetheir training to conduct physical security surveys, installationvulnerability assessments, hotel, airfield, and port assessmentsthroughout the world.
To achieve accreditation, agencies submit to an independent reviewof their academy and/or program to ensure compliance with the FLETAStandards and Procedures in the areas of: Program Administration,Training Staff, Training Development, and Training Delivery, with anadditional 20 standards for Academies. Accreditation is a cyclicalprocess occurring every three years. Each year, agencies must submitannual reports in preparation for reaccreditation, which is a new andindependent review of the academy/program.
