FLETA Board Grants Initial Accreditation to U.S. Marshals Service Program

The Federal Law Enforcement Training Accreditation (FLETA) Board ispleased to announce it granted initial accreditation status to the U.S.Marshals Service Detention Enforcement Officer/Aviation EnforcementOfficer (DEO/AEO) Program at the July 12, 2012 meeting at Glynco,Georgia. On behalf of Director Hylton, Mr. William T. Fallon, AssistantDirector for Training with the U.S. Marshals Service, thanked the Boardand the assessment team. Mr. Fallon noted that the Director announcedthe USMS 2011 Distinguished Service Awards, one of which went to DonHines, Cynthia Wild, and Darrell D. Williams of the USMS TrainingDivision in Glynco, Georgia, for the accreditation of the Basic DeputyU.S. Marshal program.  

 

The U.S. Marshals DEO/AEO Program was established in 2000 to trainpersonnel to transport prisoners via ground or air, conduct searches ofprisoner/detainees, apply and/or remove restraints, and processprisoners either in a USMS District Office or onboard a Justice Alienand Prisoner Transportation System (JPATS) aircraft.

 

To achieve accreditation, agencies submit to an independent reviewof their academy and/or program to ensure compliance with the FLETAStandards and Procedures in the areas of: Program Administration,Training Staff, Training Development, and Training Delivery, with anadditional 20 standards for Academies. Accreditation is a cyclicalprocess occurring every three years. Each year, agencies must submitannual reports in preparation for reaccreditation, which is a new andindependent review of the academy/program.
