FLETA Board Grants Reaccreditation to the U.S. Secret Service’s Special Agent Training

The Federal Law Enforcement Training Accreditation (FLETA) Board ispleased to announce it granted reaccreditation status to the U.S.Secret Service’s Special Agent Training Course at the March 22, 2012meeting in Hilton Head, South Carolina. Keith Hill, Assistant Directorfor the Office of Human Resources and Training, U.S. Secret Serviceaccepted the certificate of accreditation, “This is the golden seal ofapproval and it means a lot to us. We look forward to continuing ourwork with FLETA”.

The mission of the United States Secret Service is to safeguard thenation's financial infrastructure and payment systems to preserve theintegrity of the economy, and to protect national leaders, visitingheads of state and government, designated sites and National SpecialSecurity Events. The Secret Service, because of its unique lawenforcement responsibilities, has long realized the importance ofspecialized training for its employees.

The Special Agent Training Course is a 16 week program that focuseson specific Secret Service policies and procedures associated with thedual responsibilities of protection and investigations. The courseprovides basic knowledge-based and advanced application-based training in counterfeit, fraud, and protective intelligence investigations aswell as training in physical protection and protective advances. Thecore curriculum is augmented with skills training in firearms, controltactics, water safety and advanced emergency medicine.

To achieve accreditation, agencies submit to an independent reviewof their academy and/or program to ensure compliance with the FLETAStandards and Procedures in the areas of: Program Administration,Training Staff, Training Development, and Training Delivery, with anadditional 20 standards for Academies. Accreditation is a cyclicalprocess occurring every three years. Each year, agencies must submitannual reports in preparation for reaccreditation, which is a new andindependent review of the academy/program.
