The Federal Law Enforcement Training Accreditation (FLETA) Board ispleased to announce it granted reaccreditation status to the U.S.Secret Service’s Uniformed Division Training Course.
Keith Hill, Assistant Director, Human Resources and Training,accepted the certificate on behalf of Director Mark Sullivan, thankingUSSS Accreditation Manager Kim Canitz and Deputy Special Agent inCharge Percy Howard, noting the reaccreditation award validates theirhard work.
Newly appointed Secret Service Uniformed Division recruits attend atwo-day introduction entitled Uniformed Division Introductory TrainingCourse (UDITC), which consists of briefings on various administrativetopics, as well as a physical fitness assessment and Use of Forcebriefing. After successful completion of both UDITC and FLETC's MixedBasic Police Training Program (MBPT), recruits return to the James J.Rowley Training Center to attend the 14-week Uniformed DivisionTraining Course (UDTC). The UDTC curriculum focuses on specificUniformed Division policies and procedures associated with theresponsibilities of providing protection at the White House, the VicePresident's residence, and in areas surrounding diplomatic missionslocated in the Washington, D.C., area.
To achieve accreditation, agencies submit to an independent reviewof their academy and/or program to ensure compliance with the FLETAStandards and Procedures in the areas of: Program Administration,Training Staff, Training Development, and Training Delivery, with anadditional 20 standards for Academies. Accreditation is a cyclicalprocess occurring every three years. Each year, agencies must submitannual reports in preparation for reaccreditation, which is a new andindependent review of the academy/program.
