FLETA Board Grants Reaccreditation to FLETC UPTP

For Immediate Release
Federal Law Enforcement Training Centers staff present their reaccreditation certificate for the Uniformed Police Training Program

The Federal Law Enforcement Training Accreditation (FLETA) Board is pleased to announce it granted reaccreditation status to the Federal Law Enforcement Training Centers (FLETC) Uniformed Police Training Program (UPTP) at the April 14-16, 2015 meeting in Quantico, VA.

The Uniformed Police Training Program (UPTP) provides a study of the basic law enforcement concepts that a new officer should understand and/or be able to perform upon employment in a federal law enforcement organization. The program is designed to provide the new officer with the specific knowledge and skills necessary to perform at the entry level in a Federal law enforcement position. The FLETC maintains liaison with partner organizations to keep abreast of their changing needs and to provide current information to students concerning Federal laws, jurisdiction, policies, procedures and basic operations.

The program of instruction is constantly upgraded and modified to meet the collective training needs of those organizations which participate in the UPTP training platform. Suggestions for improvement and/or modifications are considered by the FLETC and discussed with the partner organizations. When a general consensus is reached regarding a change to the program, it is implemented.

The FLETA Board is the accrediting body for all federal law enforcement training and support programs. To achieve accreditation, agencies submit to an independent review of their academy and/or program to ensure compliance with the FLETA Standards and Procedures in the areas of: Program Administration, Training Staff, Training Development, and Training Delivery, with an additional 20 standards for Academies. Accreditation is a cyclical process occurring every five years. Each year, agencies must submit annual reports in preparation for reaccreditation, which is a new and independent review of the academy/program.
