FLETA Board Grants Reaccreditation to the IRS National Criminal Investigation Training Academy and One Program

The Federal Law Enforcement Training Accreditation (FLETA) Board is pleased to announce it granted reaccreditation status to the Internal Revenue Service’s (IRS) National Criminal Investigation Training Academy (NCITA) and Special Agent Basic Training Program (SABT) at the November 3, 2016 meeting in Glynco, GA.

In support of the overall Internal Revenue Service and Criminal Investigation missions, the NCITA is dedicated to fostering the highest levels of professionalism and ethical behavior throughout the Criminal Investigation workforce.  The NCITA’s primary focus is in training new special agents in the fundamentals of financial investigations, including elements of tax offenses, methods of proof unique to Federal tax investigations and all of the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities to be Federal law enforcement’s finest financial investigators.

The NCITA is comprised to two sections: Training Strategy and Training Operations.  Training Strategy encompasses Use of Force Equipment, Enforcement Training, Leadership Development and Policy Support, the Internal Revenue Manual, and Course Development.  Training Operations encompasses the delivery of Domestic and Virtual Training, International Training, and Basic Training.

The Special Agent Basic Training (SABT) Program is a comprehensive formal classroom and practical exercise training designed to equip new agents with problem-solving skills that they will use and expand upon throughout their careers.  The program is 26 weeks in length and consists of three phases including, Pre-Basic, the Criminal Investigator Training Program delivered by the Federal Law Enforcement Training Centers, and the Special Agent Investigative Techniques.

The FLETA Board is the accrediting body for all federal law enforcement training and support programs. To achieve accreditation, agencies submit to an independent review of their academy and/or program to ensure compliance with the FLETA Standards and Procedures in the areas of Program Administration, Training Staff, Training Development, Training Delivery, and Distance Learning. Accreditation is a cyclical process occurring every five years. Each year, agencies must submit annual reports in preparation for reaccreditation, which is a new and independent review of the academy/program.
