FLETA Board Grants Reaccreditation to the USMS BDUSMI

For Immediate Release

FLETA Board Grants Reaccreditation to the USMS BDUSMI

The Federal Law Enforcement Training Accreditation (FLETA) Board is pleased to announce it granted reaccreditation status to the United States Marshals Service (USMS), Basic Deputy United States Marshal Integrated (BDUSMI) at the November 18, 2021 meeting.

The purpose of the BDUSMI is to prepare candidates for the rigors and responsibilities of duty as a Deputy United States Marshal (DUSM). The program is a joint venture between the United States Marshals Service and the Federal Law Enforcement Training Centers. As a basic training program, BDUSMI is designed to provide candidates with the knowledge, skills, and abilities needed to be a Federal Law Enforcement Officer. Each successful candidate graduates the program as a DUSM and joins this nation’s first and most versatile Federal Law Enforcement Agency as a sworn Deputy United States Marshal. The BDUSMI program is 89 instructional days and consists of 856 hours of instruction. The average number of students per iteration of the program is 48.

The FLETA Board is the accrediting body for all federal law enforcement training and support programs. To achieve accreditation, agencies submit to an independent review of their academy and/or program to ensure compliance with the FLETA standards and procedures in the areas of Academy/Program Administration, Training Staff, Training Development, and Training Delivery. Accreditation is a cyclical process occurring every five years. Each year, agencies must submit annual reports in preparation for reaccreditation, which is a new and independent review of the academy/program.
