The Federal Law Enforcement Training Accreditation (FLETA) Board ispleased to announce it granted initial accreditation status to the U.S.Customs and Border Protection’s Driving Instructor Training Program,and reaccreditation to the CBP Officer Basic Training at the November17, 2011 meeting in Annapolis Maryland.
The CBP Border Patrol Academy is responsible for oversight anddelivery of the Driving Instructor Training Program (DITP). The DITPprepares personnel to deliver driving training to basic and advancedstudents. The DITP teaches the unique and dynamic skills required of aBorder Patrol driving instructor through classroom presentations andpractical exercises.
The CBP Field Operations Academy is responsible for oversight anddelivery of the CBP Officer Basic Training. The program prepares newofficers to perform the vast duties and authorities at U.S. landborders, airports, seaports, and other locations nationwide.
To achieve accreditation, agencies submit to an independent reviewof their academy and/or program to ensure compliance with the FLETAStandards and Procedures in the areas of: Program Administration,Training Staff, Training Development, and Training Delivery, with anadditional 20 standards for Academies. Accreditation is a cyclicalprocess occurring every three years. Each year, agencies must submitannual reports in preparation for reaccreditation, which is a new andindependent review of the academy/program.
