The Federal Law Enforcement Training Accreditation (FLETA) Board is pleased to announce it granted accreditation status to the Bureau of Engraving and Printing’s Police Basic Training Program at the May 6-8, 2014 meeting in Quantico, VA.
The objective of the Police Basic Training Program (PBTP) is to provide new officers with an extensive overview of law enforcement principles that is specific to the Bureau of Engraving and Printing (BEP) and Department of Treasury policies. This four-week program was officially developed and implemented in 2000. The BEP has held twenty-three (23) iterations since then and the course is currently held at the Washington, DC facility and the Ft. Worth, Texas facility. Prior to attending this program; new police recruits must successfully complete the Federal Law Enforcement Training Centers’ Uniformed Police Training Program.
The FLETA Board is the accrediting body for all federal law enforcement training and support programs. To achieve accreditation, agencies submit to an independent review of their academy and/or program to ensure compliance with the FLETA Standards and Procedures in the areas of: Program Administration, Training Staff, Training Development, and Training Delivery, with an additional 20 standards for Academies. Accreditation is a cyclical process occurring every five years. Each year, agencies must submit annual reports in preparation for reaccreditation, which is a new and independent review of the academy/program.
