FLETA Accredits AFOSI Sex Crimes Investigator Training Program

For Immediate Release
AFOSI staff accepts the certificate of accreditation.

The Federal Law Enforcement Training Accreditation (FLETA) Board is pleased to announce it granted initial accreditation status to the Air Force Office of Special Investigations’ (AFOSI) Sex Crimes Investigator Training Program at the November 18-21, 2014 meeting in Glynco, GA.

The Sex Crimes Investigator Training Program (SCITP) is an eight-day USAFSIA advanced course held at the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center (FLETC), Glynco, GA. SCITP was designed to meet the needs of AFOSI agents conducting, supervising, and reviewing sexual assault investigations. The course covers a variety of topics to include investigative planning and management, crime scene processing, cognitive biases in sexual assault cases, and psychology of victims and sexual offenders. Students are also trained in cognitive interviewing during the course and upon successful completion of the course are certified to conduct such interviews.

The FLETA Board is the accrediting body for all federal law enforcement training and support programs. To achieve accreditation, agencies submit to an independent review of their academy and/or program to ensure compliance with the FLETA Standards and Procedures in the areas of: Program Administration, Training Staff, Training Development, and Training Delivery, with an additional 20 standards for Academies. Accreditation is a cyclical process occurring every five years. Each year, agencies must submit annual reports in preparation for reaccreditation, which is a new and independent review of the academy/program.
