FLETA Reaccredits USMS Program

For Immediate Release
members of the United States Marshals Service receive their certificate of reaccreditation for their program

The Federal Law Enforcement Training Accreditation (FLETA) Board is pleased to announce it has granted reaccreditation status to the United States Marshals Service (USMS) Basic Deputy United States Marshal (BDUSM) program at the April 12-14, 2016, meeting in Glynco, GA.

The BDUSM program was developed and designed to ensure that new hire candidates gain the knowledge and skills to successfully perform the duties of Deputy U. S. Marshal.

The training is a three phased program that requires candidates to attend a four-training day Pre-Basic course, the 56-training day Federal Law Enforcement Training Centers’ Criminal Investigator Training Program, and the BDUSM. The BDUSM is 39 instructional days in length (323 course hours).

The FLETA Board is the accrediting body for all federal law enforcement training and support programs. To achieve accreditation, agencies submit to an independent review of their academy and/or program to ensure compliance with the FLETA Standards and Procedures in the areas of: Administration, Training Staff, Training Development, Training Delivery, and Distance Learning. Accreditation is a cyclical process occurring every five years. Each year, agencies must submit annual reports in preparation for reaccreditation, which is a new and independent review of the academy/program.
