FLETA Board Accredits Department of the Interior Office of Law Enforcement and Security Investigator Training Program
The Federal Law Enforcement Training Accreditation (FLETA) Board is pleased to announce it granted initial accreditation status to the Department of the Interior (DOI) Office of Law Enforcement and Security (OLES) DOI Investigator Training Program (ITP) at the November 1-3, 2016 meeting in Glynco, GA.
The ITP is designed to meet the training needs of experienced uniformed law enforcement officers as they transition to new positions with investigative responsibilities. The participants are employed by various DOI entities, including the Bureau of Indian Affairs, National Park Service, U.S. Fish, and Wildlife Service, Bureau of Land Management, U.S. Park Police, and tribal departments.
The ITP is six weeks long and is a collaboration between DOI and the Federal Law Enforcement Training Centers (FLETC) Training includes classroom lecture and laboratory exercises with role players and investigative equipment.
The FLETA Board is the accrediting body for all federal law enforcement training and support programs. To achieve accreditation, agencies submit to an independent review of their academy and/or program to ensure compliance with the FLETA Standards and Procedures in the areas of Program Administration, Training Staff, Training Development, Training Delivery, and Distance Learning. Accreditation is a cyclical process occurring every five years. Each year, agencies must submit annual reports in preparation for reaccreditation, which is a new and independent review of the academy/program.
