FLETA Board Grants Initial Accreditation to the U.S. Air Force Special Investigations Academy Basic Extension Program

The Federal Law Enforcement Training Accreditation (FLETA) Board is pleased to announce it granted initial accreditation status to the U.S. Air Force Special Investigations Academy (USAFSIA) Basic Extension Program (BEP) at the November 1-3, 2016 meeting in Glynco, GA.

The BEP was developed to meet Air Force mandates outlined in the Special Investigations Career Field Education and Training Plan. The Office of Special Investigations (OSI) Education and Training Plan specify the core tasks and skills, and to what level, that all OSI agents must be trained on in order to complete probationary requirements and become fully accredited agents.

The BEP is approximately 12 months long out of a 15-month probationary training cycle, and is facilitated via distance learning by the USAFSIA on the Federal Law Enforcement Training Centers in Glynco, GA. The BEP trains new OSI agents in advanced tradecraft and informant handling, interviewing, and interrogation techniques, and criminal investigation skills.

The FLETA Board is the accrediting body for all federal law enforcement training and support programs. To achieve accreditation, agencies submit to an independent review of their academy and/or program to ensure compliance with the FLETA Standards and Procedures in the areas of Administration, Training Staff, Training Development, Training Delivery, and Distance Learning. Accreditation is a cyclical process occurring every five years. Each year, agencies must submit annual reports in preparation for reaccreditation, which is a new and independent review of the academy/program.
