FLETA Board Grants Reaccreditation to the NASA Federal Arrest Authority Basic Training Program
The Federal Law Enforcement Training Accreditation (FLETA) Board is pleased to announce it has granted reaccreditation status to the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) Protective Services Training Academy (NPSTA) Federal Arrest Authority (FAA) Basic Training Program at the November 1-3, 2016, meeting in Glynco, GA.
The Space Act of 1958 authorized select NASA government personnel and contractors to carry firearms. In November 1988, the Space Act granted statutory federal arrest authority to select NASA employees and contractors. Training is conducted onsite at the NPSTA facility located at Kennedy Space Center (KSC), Florida and other select NASA Centers. The Federal Arrest Authority Basic Program is 152 training hours and prepares NASA employees and contract personnel with basic entry -level training required for federal arrest authority.
The FLETA Board is the accrediting body for all federal law enforcement training and support programs. To achieve accreditation, agencies submit to an independent review of their academy and/or program to ensure compliance with the FLETA Standards and Procedures in the areas of Administration, Training Staff, Training Development, Training Delivery, and Distance Learning. Accreditation is a cyclical process occurring every five years. Each year, agencies must submit annual reports in preparation for reaccreditation, which is a new and independent review of the academy/program.
