FLETA Board Grants Reaccreditation to DHS Program

For Immediate Release
DHS Intelligence Training Academy staff holding the FLETA accreditation certificate

The Federal Law Enforcement Training Accreditation (FLETA) Board is pleased to announce it granted reaccreditation status to the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Intelligence Training Academy (ITA), Intelligence Analysis Basic Course (IABC) at the November 7, 2019 meeting in Glynco, GA.

The purpose of the IABC is to provide employees with the knowledge and skills necessary to be a successful entry-level Homeland Security Intelligence Analyst. The course prepares new employees for the constant challenge of providing actionable intelligence to senior executives seeking an advantage in making decisions. Working on short timelines and in high-pressure situations, intelligence analysts use a wide range of knowledge, skills, and abilities to complete assigned missions. Critical thinking, evaluating information, writing, and briefing are a few examples of core skills. The IABC is 20 instructional days and consists of 164 hours of instruction. The average number of students per iteration of the program is 18.

The FLETA Board is the accrediting body for all federal law enforcement training and support programs. To achieve accreditation, agencies submit to an independent review of their academy and/or program to ensure compliance with the FLETA Standards and Procedures in the areas of Program Administration, Training Staff, Training Development, Training Delivery, and Distance Learning. Accreditation is a cyclical process occurring every five years. Each year, agencies must submit annual reports in preparation for reaccreditation, which is a new and independent review of the academy/program.
