FLETA Community,
Good afternoon. Yesterday, as you may have seen, President Biden signed the Executive Order (EO) on Advancing Effective, Accountable Policing and Criminal Justice Practices to Enhance Public Trust and Public Safety. Here is the link to this order: https://www.whitehouse.gov/briefing-room/presidential-actions/2022/05/25/executive-order-on-advancing-effective-accountable-policing-and-criminal-justice-practices-to-enhance-public-trust-and-public-safety/. If you haven’t seen this, I highly encourage you to read it.
The FLETA Office of Accreditation (OA) is conducting a comprehensive review of this EO. The OA is paying particular attention to the requirement for new standards for accreditation and for accrediting bodies, specifically, Section 19 of the EO. The OA stands ready to respond to requests from the Attorney General, as his office works with stakeholders.
If, after consultation with the Attorney General’s Office, new standards will need to be added, the OA will convene a working group comprised of several Board Members, members of the accreditation community, and the OA staff. Your interest in participating in such a working group would be greatly appreciated. When the time comes to create such a group, we will solicit for volunteers.
The OA will ensure that we continue to communicate any updates regarding the EO as we become aware of them.
Respectfully,
Joe Collins
