The purpose of the NASA PSTA is to provide NASA Protective Services professionals with the basic criminal justice, defensive tactics, and firearms training in addition to professional development services relevant to their individual needs. The NASA PSTA is responsible for the training of all NASA Special Agents and contractor Security Police Officers nationwide, leading to and maintaining Federal Arrest Authority (FAA) certification. The FAA Basic is a 152-hour course with an additional 8-hour annual firearms training requirement. Students are instructed primarily in a hands-on and scenario-based training environment.
